| I guess it's been a little while since I've updated. Well guess what people, I have more important things to do than sit in front of a computer all day. And if anyone really wanted to know what was going on, they would talk to me--which some people have done and so they know.. lol Anyway, this weekend was the Sooner Bassooner Weekend Festival thing.. and I sort of didn't come to most of it. I really didn't realize we had to be there for stuff on every day.. I thought the masterclasses and stuff were for the other people coming. So I kinda got a little bit bitched out today in my lesson. Prof wasn't too happy about my absence, which I didn't figure he would be at this point. But he ended up saying he guessed I was allowed one "freshman flub" so apparantly I'm not in too much trouble. However, my lesson ended up being okay I suppose. I've really been encouraged lately because at my last lesson, I played this etude thing and I wasn't really all that happy with how I played it, even though I had pracited really hard on it. But when I was done he said that was the best he'd ever heard any of his students play that piece in 25 years of teaching. Not that I played it perfectly or anything, but he said I played very strongly and I seemed to know exactly what I wanted to do with the piece musically. He was pleased that I was well-prepared and had practiced as well. I was sooo excited because I had been really discouraged about being a music major.. I wasn't sure it was something I could do, and I had been hearing a lot of negativity in that respect. Today he said I had been having the best lessons of all the freshmen, and that it looked like I could be a bassoon player! Like for a career! :) :) :) That makes me so excited! Consequently, it makes me want to practice more as well.. which I need. I never was very disciplined about practicing in high school. So bassoon is going very well! Other classes... eh.. lol Piano is easy and I know I have like a 98 in there. Music theory, not sure about because I turned in a couple of late papers which start as A's and end up being C's for lateness. Aural skills, so far I think I have an A.. maybe a high B. English.. no clue really. Government, only had one test and I didn't study so I think I have a mid-C in there. Oops.. Anyway, that's been pretty much it lately. Oh yeah--YAY for 6 pm kickoff on Saturday so I can sleep in!! | | |
| Saturday did not go very well for me, but at least I'm not alone. Just look at the football team! Jeez... This lady came up behind me when we were about to march on for half time and was like, "you girls get out there and perform good cuz our football team sure isn't performing!" lol I was like um.. yeah. lol Crazy. Oh well, anyway so my day started out with a lovely 6 am rehearsal at Everest. Fun. Then we had another rehearsal at 9:15 which I was running late for, so I was running down the stairs of my dorm. Well, I guess I'm an idiot and didn't think about my jazz sneakers not having any traction, because I slipped and fell down like almost a whole floor of stairs. This wasn't just a little trip--oh no. No, this was a slip, fall, tumble, bang, boom, ow, boom, oof. Yeah. I busted open my finger and banged up my knee pretty bad, but yes I'm alive. Gimpy, but alive. I still don't know how I managed to go the whole day and march like that. But it was crap. So at least that was the worst part of my day, because if it had been worse than that, I would have had to shoot myself.
Pregame, I was pretty out of it between bruises and my allergies killing me, but as soon as we came out of the tunnels and onto the field, I went blank. lol I had no idea where I was supposed to be or what I was supposed to do. Luckily I just followed the girl in front of me and quickly remembered. I kept looking up into the crowd and thinking, "oh my God... look at all those people!" So for the first half of pregame I was goofy smile girl, and then by the middle I had mascara in my eye from squinting so I was sqinty half smile girl. Nice. By the time half time rolled around, I wasn't feeling so well but I really just didn't care about anything. I just did my thing and when I messed up, I didn't care. I dropped a toss because I actually compensated the wrong way for the wind. Instead of tossing it into the wind, I tossed it with the wind, so it went way away from me. lol Dummy. Yes, I am. :) Oh well. My feet hurt, but other than that and getting sunburned, it was fine. It would have been nice if we had won though... blah. I'm done.
| So in light of the recent tragedy in New Orleans and the surrounding area, I am listening to jazz for an undetermined amount of time. Kind of a remembrance thing of its history, and to show that all is not lost. On a larger scale my studio, the Sooner Basooners, is going to have some sort of fund raiser soon to send to Louisiana. I hope that goes well.
Tomorrow is the first OU game! OMG! I'm so going to crap my pants out on the field! With 80,000 people there watching, I don't know who wouldn't. Honestly, I'm mostly worried about the last song of half time because I'm not getting my drill down very well. I forget it almost right after we learn it! Consequently, my performance lacks on that part since I'm worrying about where to go. But on a better note, Gallie, our instructor, says the flags are all going around really well. It's nice to have some positive encouragement. :) So I guess we'll just have to see how that one goes. Six a.m. rehearsal tomorrow isn't going to be fun though. Blah. I'll just be glad when half time is over cuz I'm going to die. lol I remember my first high school game and how scared I was then. I was like huffing and puffing cuz I was so nervous and freaked out!
Nothin else really important to talk about other than minor annoyances. lol I guess that's all for now. Good luck tonight M-Dub.. kick Del City's butt!
| Well I guess I'm a little overdue an update, yes? Well, Pride had me really busy this past week so I had no time for anything aside from showers, food, and sleep! lol So... I made the Pride! Woo!!! OU Color Guard girl right here baby! Ha ha.. yes I'm a dork. Congrats to the others who made it too! Anyway, wow, this guard is so much better than what I expected and what I was used to from high school. Biggest differences: positive reinforcement/encouragement and more laid back attitudes from leaders. And we still get a lot done! Yes, you can be nice to your guard and still have a good guard! So yeah, it's great. We work hard, get a lot done, and it's more rewarding to me. :) Yay for Pride!!
School was not what I expected. I expected to get lost finding my classes (which I did, on several occasions), but I didn't expect to like my teachers this much. And I expected the classes to "feel" like college, but they really don't. It's not bad at all, just not what I expected. My government professor seems really laid back, and so does my English professor. They're both really young, which makes me wonder if they are graduate whatevers. Theory class is kinda boring but the teacher is pretty cool. Well, he's not really cool but he tries and I give him an A for the effort. lol He reminds me a little bit of Mr. McNair, only less dorky and obnoxious. Ha ha! Well, I have to go to group piano in a minute, which I'm looking forward to since I haven't touched a piano in weeks it seems. lol I hope all the Seniors at M Dub are having fun with their last year of high school! College is fun, but enjoy senior year cuz it can be wonderful or it can be awful... Mmk class now! Leave me some love cuz I need it! lol :) xoxox
| I moved in yesterday!!! lol Tiny tiny little room! But cozy I guess. Our suitemates are really nice. Hillary and Elizabeth. Stefani Scott is like a few rooms down from ours too! Yay! And her roommate is Kayleigh or Kaela.. can't remember which. lol Yay floor 5! I think I'm a little bit too excited. But it's ok.
We went bowling last night with Rachel, Stephen, Candice, Melissa, Mike, Chad, Alisha, and her husband Kenny. I won the first game! 132 or 130-something! lol My knee was hurting and I didn't feel like playing anymore so Stephen bowled for me the next game. And I still beat him.. lol Oh well. It was so much fun.. I acted like the biggest dork. I do that sometimes in groups like that. lol Anyway, it was fun. :) Stayed the night with Rachel. Melissa flaked out on us to go see her man. Jerk. lol Mmk.. thats all for now.. later
